At what age should I Address My Hair Loss?

95% of hair loss is a genetically predisposed condition. The earlier you begin treatment, the better chance you have of achieving results. In fact, it may be possible to prevent hair loss from ever occurring if you begin a treatment program in your early 20s but it is never too late to begin a program if you are committed to addressing the problem.

The easiest way to potentially forecast your degree of future hair loss is to determine which one of your parents you resemble the most. Since gene dominance plays the most significant role in hair loss, you will likely follow the genetics of your parent you take after in appearance. For example, if you look more like your father, then your hair loss pattern will likely be similar to his as you begin to age. If you more closely resemble your mother, then you will likely have a hair loss pattern similar to her brothers. These are reference points and may not necessarily be absolutes.

What Kind of Results Can I Expect and When?

After 30 to 90 days of treatments, test study subjects reported the following:

  • Hair appearing cleaner and more manageable for a longer period throughout the day
  • Noticeably fewer hair shafts in the shower and/or on their pillow
  • Some hair shafts appearing larger in diameter
  • Hair appearing to have an improved luster
  • Hair considerably fuller in body
  • Decrease in scalp oiliness

At the 3 – 6 month period, 94% of individuals rated the Nutreve Hair Therapy System at 8 or higher on a 10 point scale. Subjects noted they felt more comfortable using a program that addresses hair loss concerns using safe, natural, non-invasive products. Other study highlights noted a personal relief after making a decision to get hair loss under control and more optimism that hair loss may not be as much of a concern in the future if they continue the treatment program.

How long should I use the Nutreve System?

Hair loss is generally a long term condition that requires ongoing treatment. In most cases, as your hair loss condition improves, you can reduce the number of treatments per week from the initial suggested amount to as little as once per week although the ongoing use of the topical solutions, nutritional products and De-Chlorinating Shower Filter should not be terminated or reduced if possible. If you stop the treatment program completely you can generally plan on you hair loss condition returning over a period of time.

If I'm using Propecia or Rogaine, can I still use Laser Hair Therapy?

Yes – There are no known drug interaction problems with Laser Hair Therapy. Each of these treatments attack hair loss with a different mechanism. They can be complimentary, as was recently presented at an international meeting which concluded those using Rogaine™ (minoxidil) may experience a better result when adding Laser Hair Therapy to the treatment plan.

When someone comes to our clinic who is not currently using finasteride or minoxidil, we typically suggest they try Laser Hair Therapy as a ‘stand-alone’ treatment option first. That way, both we and the patient can judge the efficacy of the Laser Therapy on its own merits, instead of wondering which option to give credit for results! The patient can always add one or both of the two approved drugs later in a treatment program.”

What benefit to me is Laser Hair Therapy if I wear a hairpiece?

Anyone wearing a hairpiece, weave or extensions realizes they will usually experience a continuing loss of hair. When that happens, it becomes more difficult to ‘blend’ the hairpiece with the indigenous hair. As time goes on, the wearer of a hairpiece may find him or herself in need of a progressively larger product to keep up with the continuing loss. LLLT can allow the growing hair to keep its body and luster, thereby making for a better overall appearance.

Why wouldn't I just get a Hair Transplant?

When someone decides to have hair transplant surgery after their hair loss has more or less ‘stabilized’ the major benefit of combining laser hair therapy is to maintain the quality of the remaining hair. In other words, hair transplants do not stop further hair deterioration, so future transplants are often needed. Keeping what you have following a hair transplant surgery is a way of protecting your investment and possibly preventing the need for more transplants

If I stop using Laser Therapy will my hair deteriorate?

The hair shaft is a complex structure containing several elements which are important to its appearance. First, each hair or group of hairs is supported by a tiny muscle. That muscle gives the hair the ‘body and lift’ that most of us have when we are young. The laser stimulates this muscle and it is often the first improvement patients notice who use the laser—especially women. Each hair has a sebaceous gland that secrets an oily substance which allows the growing hair to exit the scalp and which give the hair its shine or “luster.” With time, this gland doesn’t work as well and the hair can get dull and brittle. Our experience shows the laser can ‘normalize’ the production of the sebaceous gland, giving the hair an approved appearance, typically in just 10-18 weeks. The hair color comes from the production of Melanin in the hair structure. With laser therapy, we have seen weak, thin hair, begin to grow healthier looking with improved color production. Additonally, LLLT seems to help color retention in many individuals who use a hair color product. Remember, just like working out the muscles in your body, if you stop stimulating the complex structure of the hair root, it can weaken again and deteriorate.
